Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black)

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) Review

This Blu-ray disc player by Panasonic impresses me. The setup is very easy; you'll need a "HDMI" cable but that's about it for setup. It works very well with my HD television. It's important to note from the start, however, that the degree to which this will display images and produce high quality sound is only as good as the rest of the other devices you're using--for example, the HD television and/or receiver. The load time is a few seconds more but for the splendid picture quality along with that crystal clear audio it's well worth waiting a few extra seconds.

I use this almost exclusively for watching Blu-ray discs; the quality of the sound and video is flawless. The upconversion for standard DVDs is also nothing short of wonderful, too! However, there's more to this machine if you want to use it to its fullest capabilities. Through the Internet you can use this player to view YouTube, weather and more. You can also watch video using Amazon's On-Demand streaming service; and that's excellent. In addition, I like that the player has an Ethernet port, a USB slot--and there's a slot for a SD card, too! It has the energy star seal of approval, too.

It's very important to note that this is, in a sense, a type of computer. Therefore, expect the machine to check for necessary updates (aka firmware). Just in case this doesn't happen, don't panic--there's a way to get around this potential problem. Go to the Panasonic website and you will find very clear instructions to let you download the required updates so this Blu-ray player will continue to function. Specifically, download the updates onto a blank CD-R and then just copy them to the player by inserting the CD-R with the updates into the player's drive. That will do the trick--after all, you don't want to have this player cease to function; it would be reduced to a black box, left all alone to gather dust in the land of unwanted, forgotten and castaway toys. This is a rather minor inconvenience; the player works so well that I can practically overlook this.

Overall, this is a good Blu-ray player although I hope that down the road Blu-ray players won't need updates. I highly recommend this Blu-ray player by Panasonic.

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) Overview

Panasonic has always been at the cutting edge of Blu-ray technology, but its latest range of players looks to push the boundaries even further. The DMP-BD60 is the entry-level player in the company's latest three-strong line-up - which also includes the step-up DMP-BD80 and the DMP-BD70V Blu-ray/VHS combi (no, really) - and the big breakthrough on these models is the inclusion of Viera Cast functionality, also found on the company's Z1, V10 and G15 NeoPDP TVs.
