The player handles a variety of formats, including audio and MP3-encoded CD-Rs.

Video features
Brightness and color buttons let you adjust the picture to your taste and viewing conditions. A display button cycles through the player's aspect ratios, with its native 16:9 being the default. Other modes are "cinema," "normal," and "off" (you can conserve battery power if you're listening to music).

Audio features
The Audiovox D1700 features built-in stereo speakers. Virtual Surround (by Q Surround) simulates surround sound when you're listening to the latest Hollywood blockbusters via the onboard speakers, headphones, or your home stereo.

Connections
The supplied headphones plug directly into a 0.125-inch headphone jack (compatible with all minijack-terminated headphones). The headphone jack doubles as an optical digital-audio output for use with a minijack-to-Toslink fiber-optic cable (see accessories, below).

The AV outputs (composite-video with stereo analog audio) can also serve as AV inputs. Simply switch "Output" to "Input" and use the provided interconnect to feed the player a signal from a camcorder, VCR, game console, or other video device.

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player, Black

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player, Black Review

I love this player. DMP-BD60 viewed on Panasonic TC-L32G1.

1. DVD play back is really nice. The up conversion gives true colors etc. Its a very nice step up from progressive scan DVD playback. A lot of forum talk is spent on dvd up conversion "not all up conversion is equal".

2. Viera link. I had the player installed in a hidden view. partly for the clean look, but mostly so the 2year old would not find a new toy. I still remember my friends 2 year old feeding the VCR a pb&j sandwich. LOL what a mess that was. My options get a Panasonic VieraLink player or a remote extender. The link is perfect. I can power on or off the player via the tv remote. Search Amazon video on demand, YouTube, Weather, etc all with the tv remote. The tv remote also works nicely for Blu-Ray playback too. Simply press the VieraLink button then ok and your menu will popup.

3. Viera Cast. This is a very nice feature. Current options include weather, stocks, YouTube, Amazon Video on demand. They have more coming, but have not announced who/what in the US. "Europe is expanding VIERA CAST service to include Germany's largest news and entertainment portal, BILD.de, as well as several European TV broadcasters such as ZDF (Germany), NOVA (Czech) and, in the near future, RTVE (Spain). Furthermore, Eurosport will be available in two additional languages (Swedish and Polish)." The only complaint is my Internet service provider slows down the connection of streaming video. Unfortunately this hits Amazon video service. Amazon HD is clearly better than YouTube HD, but YouTube does not suffer the pause to load that Amazon gets. *I get this with netflix playback on my pc too.* I put in a sd card hoping it would work for the Amazon video as it is needed for Blu-Ray Live features on some disks. Unfortunately I could not discern a difference in the playback.

4. Blu-Ray playback. Video and sound are excellent. *You need a 1gig SD card to use Blu-Ray live. It is in the manual, but not prominently listed as it should be.

5. Firmware. When I connected to the net it popped up and asked if I wanted to install the newest version. When I clicked ok it was painless. I just had to wait for it to download and restart. Very simple no hassle upgrade.

I played DVD's and Blu-Ray disks before upgrading the firmware. I did not notice any problems before or after the upgrade. I have had the player less than a month, so I cannot comment on durability, aside from it worked correctly out of the box. The build quality looks and feels solid to me. I have a 25' run of HDMI cable connecting the unit with the TV. No issue with connection just a wait screen as the player boots up. I did not bother to time it, but it is slightly longer than it takes my Samsung phone to turn on and access the phone contacts menu.

** A note to people that use fiber optic cable for sound. Regardless of the brand of the device you use. You will get a slight delay in the sound. Simply choose the TV speakers or the theater speakers, etc. If you don't you will hear a type of echo effect. Choosing to use HDMI pass through "should" allow both to be used together.

**Its is definitely worth looking into using the same brand to reduce the remote clutter. Check you Tv for linking options.

** If you want to stream video etc from your pc or nas this is not the player for you. Check out the LG its probably the best at streaming content from your nas or pc.

*** The DMP-BD60 does give you the option to store video and pictures on a SD card in JPEG, AVCHD,and MPEG2 format for play back. (AVCHD is a High Definition video format that you can use with standard DVD discs or an SD card.)
You can connect USB devices that support bulk only transfer. CBI (Control/Bulk/Interrupt) is not supported. This allows you to connect some cameras to view pictures etc via usb cable or usb memory dongle. To note the manual does not list a video format supported via USB only JPEG pictures and MP3 sound formats.

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player, Black Feature

  • Viera Cast connecting you with YouTube, Picasa, Weather.
  • BD-Live
  • SD Card Slot and USB slot
  • 1080P Upconvert
  • Film makers version with PHL Chip for accurate color

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player, Black Overview

Panasonic has always been at the cutting edge of Blu-ray technology, but its latest range of players looks to push the boundaries even further. The DMP-BD60 is the entry-level player in the company's latest three-strong line-up - which also includes the step-up DMP-BD80 and the DMP-BD70V Blu-ray/VHS combi (no, really) - and the big breakthrough on these models is the inclusion of Viera Cast functionality, also found on the company's Z1, V10 and G15 NeoPDP TVs.

Mintek MDP-1720 7-Inch Slim Portable DVD Player

Mintek MDP-1720 7-Inch Slim Portable DVD Player Review

First, a correction to Amazon's description: this player does *not* offer S-video output, unfortunately. Composite video is all you get. On the other hand, a feature not mentioned in the description is that you can feed composite video *into* this player, and hence use it as a 7" video display screen! That could be very handy for reviewing your camcorder movies...though if you're shooting in 4:3 (normal) mode, the picture will be a little stretched on the MDP-1720's 16:9 screen.

One other error: Amazon's technical description states "Frame advance: No," but in fact this player does support frame advance--you simply press the pause button repeatedly to step forward frame by frame. Can't go backward, though.

As to general performance: everything works fine, and the picture is excellent on the LCD screen. Sound from the built-in stereo speakers lack bass, but that's to be expected with any player this size. Sound through the headphone jack, on the other hand, is excellent.

Construction is impressively solid, and the ultra-slim aluminum case is a pleasure to behold--very similar in feel and appearance to Apple's classy Titanium PowerBooks. Travelers, and in particular RVers, will be pleased to know that this comes with both a 120VAC adapter and a 12VDC adapter.

All in all, it's easy to see why this was one of only two models recommended by Consumer Reports in a recent test of seven portable DVD players (CR, December 2004, p. 28)--coming in just slightly behind a Sony player that sells for 0!

Mintek MDP-1720 7-Inch Slim Portable DVD Player Feature

  • Compatible with DVD, VCD, MP3, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and Kodak Picture CDs
  • 7-inch 16:9 widescreen TFT color display; antishock system; under 1-inch thick
  • Analog, optical digital audio out; S-video, composite-video out; headphone jack
  • Dolby Digital audio output; virtual surround; stereo speakers
  • Measures 7.48 x 0.98 x 5.59 inches (W x H x D)

Mintek MDP-1720 7-Inch Slim Portable DVD Player Overview

Whether you're traveling cross-country or want to show your DVDs at a friend's house across town, the Mintek MDP-1720 portable DVD player is an all-in-one, easy-to-carry entertainment solution with a slim profile (it's less than an inch thick). It plays DVDs, Video CDs (VCDs), CDs (including recordable and rewriteable CDs), MP3 discs, and Kodak Picture CDs, and features a bright, 7-inch TFT (active-matrix) color LCD display in 16:9 widescreen format. It can be connected to a television, and when connected to a compatible audio system can bring the soundtrack to life with Dolby Digital audio.

Designed for easy use on the road, the MDP-1720 includes a high-capacity rechargeable lithium battery pack and has a built-in antishock system that helps prevent annoying interruptions. It features both built-in stereo speakers and a headphone jack for private listening (headphones not included), as well as a wireless remote control for use across the room, such as when connected to a TV. With the unit connected to an amplifier, you can use it as a karaoke machine (with karaoke discs). It supports multiple audio language tracks and multilingual subtitles, and lets you select from multiple camera angles on DVDs that give you those options. Among its other key features are six-mode picture zoom, four-speed slow motion, fast forward and reverse search, chapter preview ("digest") mode, random play, and repeat play (useful for tradeshows or demonstrations).

The MDP-1720 gives you S-video and composite-video output, analog stereo and optical digital (S/PDIF) audio output, and a headphone jack.

What's in the Box
Portable DVD player, remote control, rechargeable lithium battery pack, car cigarette-lighter adapter, AC adapter, audio cable, video cable, owner's manual, and warranty card.
